Trailblazing Legal Pathways: Ama Opoku Acquah's Journey in Law and Human Rights

With a B.A. in French and Linguistics and a Master of International and Comparative Law, Ama's journey began in Ghana, where she spent six years working in HR and administration for international organizations. Her academic pursuits led her to the University of Eastern Finland, where she majored in International Resources Law and minored in Environmental Law.
Ama's master's thesis on offshore petroleum production in West Africa sparked a deeper interest in oil and gas resource management, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. This passion drove her to commence a PhD in International Energy Law in 2020. Her research, focusing on the role of state shareholders in the petroleum industry and the fundamental rights of citizens in Sub-Saharan Africa, highlights her commitment to ensuring the protection of environmental and economic rights.
Beyond her PhD, Ama is involved in the Research Council of Finland Project, which focuses on intellectual property norms in Africa. This role allows her to blend her legal expertise with her administrative skills, showcasing the interdisciplinary nature of her work.
Ama’s interests remain closely aligned with her studies, as she continues to work on intellectual property law with a focus on Africa. If not in academia, she imagines a career in Event Management or Human Resources Management. What truly inspires her is defending the defenseless, bringing joy to others, achieving new feats, and learning new skills.
